Scott A.  Meyer, M.D.

Dr. Meyer has vast experience performing knee joint preservation surgery and treatments since 1992.  He has been the Head Team Physician/Orthopaedic Surgeon for Drake University since 1993 and a team orthopaedic surgeon for the Iowa Cubs since 1994.  He has also provided on the field coverage for various local high schools and assists with the Iowa Wild hockey team.  Dr. Meyer enjoys the challenges of managing athletic injuries and injury prevention with the goal of doing his best to help athletes return to their sports participation as quickly and safely as possible.

Dr. Meyer’s practice includes all aspects of orthopaedic surgery, sports medicine and arthroscopic surgery including anterior and posterior cruciate ligament reconstructions, meniscus and articular cartilage repairs, shoulder instability and rotator cuff repairs and elbow instability (“Tommy John” surgery) reconstructions. In addition, he performs total knee and shoulder replacements for the treatment of end stage arthritis of those joints.  He has written book chapters and published sports medicine related research articles in peer reviewed journals as well as presented at national meetings on his research.

Dr. Meyer grew up in Council Bluffs, Iowa. He has been married for over 30 years to his wife, Ruth, and their four children have successfully turned into adults.  When Dr. Meyer is not at work he likes to keep active by playing golf, running and exercising or being a spectator at basketball, baseball and football games.  In 2010, he had the opportunity to go on a medical mission trip to Tanzania.
