Total Knee Replacement
The staff and doctors at Iowa Ortho were wonderful! They were very friendly and professional from the time I checked in until I was released to go home after surgery. I went home the same day, and I was glad I did. The first two days were not bad, as the nerve block they gave me was still working. The next few weeks were challenging, but my husband was amazing in helping me with everything.
My physical therapy started two days after surgery, and the therapist I had was very knowledgeable and caring. It was a slow process, but every visit I improved a little at a time. I used a walker the first week or so, then graduated to just a cane. I can go to the physical therapy room and use the equipment on my own anytime I want.
Now, two months after surgery, there is no pain when walking. I still have some stiffness, but I’m told that it will go away as the healing process continues over the next six months. I’ve finished PT, and yesterday I was able to go on a bike ride, which was awesome! I still need to work every day on extension and bending to continue to improve. I’m so glad I had this surgery, as the pain I had before is gone. Thank you, Dr. Matthes and staff, for the excellent care!
