A weirdly pleasant experience for getting a surgery, the doctors and nurses took great care of me, they gave me a inflatable blanket pre surgery to stay warm after wearing a hospital gown, and i was so cozy i almost didnt want to leave, and in the middle of surgery while I was semi conscious due to anesthesia, I barely felt any discomfort or any pain, the staff are exceptional workers who care about their patients, thank you all for taking care of me

The nurses that ran my iv and took my blood for the PRP injection both got my veins on the first try which no one else could do. Also Jessica for her scheduling help. Starting PT on Friday. This was my second surgery by Dr Heineman. Obviously I was very pleased with his care and my outcome with the first operation to fuse a painful arthritic finger joint. This time I developed ulner nerve entrapment in my elbow from an old injury and he released that. Once again I experienced courteous, skillful and unhurried care. The plan was explained and questions were answered completely. He is a relatively rare combination of an excellent surgeon and an extremely nice person. He earned all five stars. Probably equally important is that without exception his staff was courteous and accommodating. His scheduling nurse, Nikki, went to great length to schedule the surgery as quickly as possible and accommodated my somewhat complex schedule. In these post pandemic times when medicine seems broken, his whole organization work smoothly. Thank you.

The Mercy River Hills Surgery Center is an excellent facility. From the beginning of the registration process on the morning of the procedure to my discharge later in the afternoon, the staff, nurses and doctors were thoroughly courteous, professional and friendly at the same time. While seeing patients and performing surgeries may be a daily routine for them, it is more of a one-off, unique situation for the patient. To this end, I was made to feel very comfortable and confident. My wife was present during the pre-op preparation. Dr. Vineyard, my surgeon, met with us and put me at ease with a clear explanation of the procedure. As a biochemist, I wanted to understand a bit more of the anesthesia etc, and the anesthesiologist was most accommodating in indulging my curiosity, as was the nurse who was administering the sedatives. What I found reassuring, and also quite amusing, is the number of times they verify your name, date of birth and what I am there for! On the whole, if one were to refer to any surgical process as being pleasant, the folks at this center certainly made it one. I don’t want to go to orthopedics again, but if I ever have to, Iowa Ortho would be it. Subsequent to my earlier review above, I would like to add another comment which I hope will be taken in the right spirit. It will mean a lot to the patient if, at the time of the first appointment with Iowa Ortho following surgery, the surgeon who performed the surgery can spend a few minutes and provide some much-needed reassurance and guidance. It may be a routine operation for the surgeon, but it is the first time for the patient, and often a traumatic experience. In my opinion, this should be a normal process of post-operative patient care at Iowa Ortho. Visiting with the PA is absolutely beneficial but not adequate.

I had meniscus surgery performed by Dr. Timothy Vinyard at Iowa Ortho’s Mercy River Hills Surgery Center on 3/5/24. I highly recommend Dr. Vinyard and his staff. The appointment included being checked in by Savannah who was efficient, knowledgeable, and friendly. After a short wait, I was taken to the pre-op area where nurses Danielle and Christina prepped me for surgery. Then Dr. Hartman, the anesthesiologist, met with me and explained what would happen during surgery and confirmed my information. Then Dr. Vinyard met with me and explained the procedure, answered all my questions, and made sure I was at ease. His bedside manner was excellent. Further, everyone I encountered during my time there spoke very highly of Dr. Vinyard. Then nurse Holly took me to the operating room and further prepared me for surgery. After the surgery, nurses Kristen and Ali assisted me in recovery and made sure I was pain free and provided me with a drink of my choice and a snack. Dr. Vinyard spoke with my wife after the surgery and provided pictures of the procedure and answered all her questions. Once Ali was certain I was recovered she took me to our car in a wheelchair. Our entire time at the Surgery Center was 3 and one-half hours. I have written a detailed review, to include names, to emphasize that at every step of the process all the staff we encountered were very professional, knowledgeable, caring, competent, thorough, and friendly. It was simply an outstanding experience. Dr. Vinyard explained in detail to me and my wife and provided detailed written instructions on what to do at home in order to have the best results possible and to begin physical therapy as soon as possible. He sent a prescription to our pharmacy for pain medication. I have followed his instructions and continue to be pain free. Based on my experience, if you choose Dr. Vinyard as your physician and have him perform your surgery I believe, in conjunction with his outstanding staff, you will have a similar experience. I expect nothing less as this is the second surgery Dr. Vinyard has done on me. I continue to highly, highly recommend him.

I can’t say enough good things about Dr. Heineman, his skills, his professionalism and his people skills. I fractured my wrist right after Christmas, and we went with a “wait and see” approach as to whether I would need surgery or not. At my first follow up visit, Dr. Heineman very carefully explained why surgery was a better option but ultimately left the decision up to me. When I did opt for surgery, his office was wonderful in scheduling me and making sure I was well prepared. Dr. Heineman then explained the procedure to me again in the surgery suite, did a wonderful job on my wrist, and even personally called me the next day to check on me. I have had a few surgical procedures in past years, but nothing compares with his people skills and genuine caring. Two thumbs up for Dr. Heineman and his staff!

Dr. Shumway has done 2 trigger fingers and a Dupuytren Contracture surgeries on my hand and he’s the only one I will ever have work on my hand. He is very knowledgeable and good at explaining everything and answering questions. Only thing I wish he did was meet with me or my driver after the surgery and inform us of how everything went. I just ask the nurses and they let me know but they might not always know everything. I let it go since he is awesome with everything else. Dr. Vinyard is an outstanding surgeon. Very thoughtful, empathetic, and technically skilled. I injured my knee rocking climbing and underwent arthroscopic surgery for a meniscus tear. I have always had a good experience and Iowa Ortho always been treated with respect and kindness. This is the second time that Dr. Gainer has done carpal tunnel surgery on my hands he did my right hand and 2016 and this time my left hand. I don’t for see any problems he’s a good Surgeon.

Had another great experience with the Iowa Orthopedic Center Des Moines and the River Hills Survey Center and staff. Everyone is polite and friendly yet quite efficient while making you feel important like a real human. Check in, intake, preop and meeting and talking to my care team was smooth and complete. Entry to the OR was quick and comfortable and I was “out” before I knew it. Just as quickly I was recovered and got postoperative teaching and checking out was simple. I have called back to them with a question and got a very good answer. In addition I got follow up calls the next day from two different staff to check up on me. I can recommend this location and organization without hesitation.

Mercy River Hills SC has hired some great staff! I had Dr. Shumway from Iowa Ortho preform a wrist surgery. Check in was great and smooth. Brent, my pre-op nurse was phenomenal. I was nervous and he put me at ease quickly with his kind demeanor and was very informative about everything! Post op I was in some pain and they got it under control quickly!
