UCL Repair
My junior year of high school, I qualified for the girls’ state wrestling tournament, and in my first round match I took a bad fall, hyperextended my elbow, and completely tore my UCL. Iowa Ortho was fantastic to work with through the entire process. Dr. Aviles and Jared Carter understood the injury, my options, but most importantly to me- they understood that as an athlete I wanted to be back on the mat for my senior year. They took their time to answer all our questions regarding the procedure, timeline and our concerns for my future.
Throughout the surgery, recovery, and rehab, they were very thorough and encouraging. Being from rural Iowa, Iowa Ortho’s multiple locations made it easy to accommodate our need to travel and schedule my appointments. I made a complete recovery and was released from their care 2 weeks before the season started. I was able to return to wrestling for my senior year, and my arm was stronger than before the injury. I had no issues throughout the season. I ended my senior wrestling year as a conference champion, 2026 state qualifier, and a 6th place finish in the State Tournament!
