The people at Iowa Ortho are awesome. I had shoulder surgery with Iowa Orthor with no problems and full recovery. Recently my lower back needed fusion. The whole spinal fusion went as explained. The nerve paindown my leg was gone immediately. The whole operation went as discussed and as it was explained to me. I would recomend Iowa ortho to anyone who needs the services they provide.

Dr. Schmitz and his PA Orewiler have given me a new lease on life! Prior to multi-level spinal fusion I was in daily pain – even standing for ten minutes or walking around the block caused pain. At age 66 I wanted to be way more active, travel and enjoy everyday activities with our growing family. The pre-op consultation gave me the confidence I needed to move forward with surgery. Within a few weeks from surgery I was able to walk a half mile at a time comfortably. Soon after I resumed driving and caring for grandkids. (With no lifting yet!) At eight weeks I was walking one mile stretches and resumed water aerobics and stationary bike exercise. It’s amazing, and I feel so good! Can’t say enough good things about this care team!

For the last 2 years my lower back pain became too much. It was uncomfortable to sit or stand. I would exhaust myself getting through the work day and then go right to bed. I did PT and 2 epidural injections. We tried all the things and Dr. Robey and Dr. Schmitz were patient with me getting to the point where I knew surgery was next. They both have been wonderful and the day of surgery, Dr. Schmitz came in to the room where I was waiting to be taken to the OR and visited with my parents and I and answered questions. I am 3-1/2 weeks in to recovery and am better and stronger each day. If I call with questions I always get a call back. It’s a big deal to trust someone with your spine and I am happy I did. Everyone, nurses included, have been wonderful.

Even though the recommended cervical spine surgery seemed scary to me. Everyone went above and beyond making me feel well cared for. The surgeons personally called me to make sure all my questions were answered. Hopefully my recovery goes as well as the surgery!

At a time when everything is so complicated and you don’t know where in the world you are safe with COVID-19, you tend to hesitate taking care of your own health because of the fear of going out in the public. My pain had become unbearable and my Dr. felt it time to refer me on to a specialist for my neck. As leary as I was I continued with her recommendation to Iowa Ortho. It eased my fears as right inside the door were masked staff to take my temperature and screen me before I entered the building. Masks were required, which I wear mine always but everyone else had theirs on also, which also made me feel safe. I checked in at the desk and waited a very short time to see the Dr. After having my blood pressure checked by the nurse, Dr. Robey came in, introduced himself and sat right in front of me with a print out of the x-ray of my neck and showed me exactly where my problem was. He continued to explain to me what had happened and why it was in the shape that it was in. He was very patient and answered all of my questions, making sure I understood and explained all of my options!! The staff were all so kind and all were geared with al the protective equipment they needed for theirs and my safety! Dr. Robey was very kind and made me feel very comfortable that he knew what he was talking about. I was so grateful he was patient and never made me feel rushed to make any decisions. His goal was to get me feeling better and that meant everything to me! I would recommend Iowa Ortho to anyone who needed a spine specialist! They are all very, professional, personable and kind! They make you feel very welcome and you leave knowing that they care!!
