Pain has been a constant part of my daily life. I dealt with bunion pain for over 10 years and finally hit my breaking point when I experienced constant pain whether I was awake or asleep. I couldn’t get away from it. After it started to impact the activities I love, I reached out to my daughter who works at Iowa Ortho as a Rad Tech. I felt very comfortable and they eased my “surgical nerves”. He explained my procedure in detail so I would be prepared for what the surgery and recovery would entail.

Dr. Trout surgically removed the bunion on my foot and recovery was a breeze. I had to flex my toes for proper function post-surgery along with a few other exercises. Dr. Trout’s nurses explained every exercise to the finest detail so I would feel confident when I went home and was out of their care. I followed Dr. Trout’s instructions strictly for the best results. I was so motivated to feel comfortable and confident again!

I work in the foodservice industry, so taking weeks off of work was not an option for me. I chose Dr. Trout because he was able to do a successful procedure that I was allowed to be weight-bearing and wouldn’t miss any work. I could finally remove my bunion and still get back to my normal life quickly!

Before surgery, I couldn’t enjoy the simple activities I had always loved- shopping, traveling, exercising, and going for leisurely walks. It was all a painful experience, so I just got used to the idea that I couldn’t browse through stores anymore or travel without pain. I would get a horrible pain in my bunion that felt like someone was taking an icepick and jamming it into the affected area. Now, I can go on big shopping excursions and plan my vacations around a day of shopping because I have always enjoyed that. Traveling through an airport was almost impossible because of the misery it would cause my foot. I can’t wait to plan my next vacation! I can now buy any pair of shoes I’d like and not worry about it not fitting or hurting my foot. This surgery has given me my life back. The only regret I have is not having this procedure done earlier!
