Erin’s Story – Carpal Tunnel Syndrome
Erin’s Story – Carpal Tunnel Syndrome

For years I struggled with carpal tunnel syndrome symptoms, however, I put off seeking medical care because I thought I was “too young” to need surgery. I used every over-the-counter idea, did stretches daily, wore braces at night, etc. Because of my stubbornness, I would struggle to find comfortable ways to sleep due to arm and hand pain. I would drop everything – from cups of water to pieces of laundry I was folding.

The final straw came in 2020 as I attempted graduate school while working full-time. The additional hours typing on my computer day after day made me so miserable I had to find a solution – and that is when I was referred to Iowa Ortho. The entire process was seamless and easy and I can’t say enough good things about Dr. Scott Shumway. He was able to answer every question I asked and has a great bedside manner.

After the carpal tunnel syndrome surgery, I was able to continue working full-time, finish graduate school, as well as take care of my family with little to no disruption from the surgeries. I found immediate relief following surgery and within a month wondered why I ever waited. I tell everyone I know suffering with carpal tunnel pain to check out the resources at Iowa Ortho and Dr. Shumway. Thank you for giving me the ability to work and take care of my clients and family without pain!
